Choose the Perfect Garden Hose

Many of our customers have questions about how much hose can fit on their Liberty Garden products. From our wall mount units to our carts and resin pots, hose capacity information is here to help you determine how much hose you can expect to hold on your products.

Garden hoses come in many styles, colors and sizes, and may include features such as kink-resistance, multiply construction or microbial protection. You’ll also find hoses that are more durable and have additional features, such as a water-flow control valve that allows you to turn off the water flow and easily change nozzles.

Size and Flow Rates

Hose diameters range from 3/8-inch, 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch. In the United States, most standard garden hoses are 5/8-inch in diameter. The bigger the diameter, the more water is delivered. The bigger the diameter determines how much hose can be put on any of our water hose storage products. Most Liberty Garden products hold 125 feet of standard 5/8 inch. hose. However, with more heavy and industrial grades 75 feet may be all you can get on our wall mount reels. A 5/8” vs. 3/4" hose can mean a vast difference in the amount of pressure your hose generates. Pressure is something you have to consider, especially if you intend to use your hose for outdoor cleaning projects. A 1/2" diameter hose might be fine for basic watering and such, but you might need a standard garden hose diameter that is larger to cover a bigger area or clean the driveway.

Here's the thing to remember about garden hose dimensions: A larger diameter of hose carries more water per minute. A larger diameter hose can also be useful in handling differences in water pressure. For example, if you are pushing water uphill through a hose, it will be more beneficial to use a large diameter hose.

Length

Garden hoses are available in increments of 25 feet, usually 25 to 100 feet in total length. Water pressure diminishes as the hose length increases, so buy a hose that's long enough to reach where you'll be using it and no longer. If you occasionally require a long hose, buy two shorter ones and combine when needed. Shorter hoses are available to extend to hard-to-reach spigots or for patio use. Liberty Garden Hose Stands and Butlers can hold anywhere between 75 to 175 feet. This is easily determined by how high you hang the Liberty Garden hose storage product or how large you want your loops to be and the thickness of your hose.

Note: Some water connectors on industrial or heavy duty water hoses might not snug up to our hose heels due to clearance issues on the spool.
